The 5 Colours of Cape Mentelle

From rosé to reds and everything in between, indulge in your favourite Cape Mentelle sips across this year's Festival.

To help you prepare, we've pulled together tasting notes for their most popular drops.

Cape Mentelle takes a non-interventionist approach towards this classic Margaret River blend of sauvignon blanc and semillon, preserving much fruit intensity and regional character. The style accentuates the fresh, vibrant fruit characters of both varieties with the added complexity and palate weight offered through a small component of barrel fermentation.

A brilliant light hay with green edges.

Fresh green lime, lemon sorbet, crisp cucumber aromas with hints of fresh cut lemongrass, pink peppercorn and wisteria blossom. A subtle saline character reminiscent of celery salt and sea spray entwines with pink grapefruit and tarragon notes.

The palate characteristics burst forth with lemon and lime creating a compelling, zesty liveliness. In the mouth, the wine is medium in length displaying passionfruit, green apple skin and nectarine, with a creaminess that balances the mineral focused backbone, giving a lively lemon gelato richness. Hints of iodine and norfolk pine needle invoke the nearby coastal origin of this wine.

Margaret River has established an international reputation for exceptional Chardonnay.

The Cape Mentelle style draws inspiration from traditional methods to deliver a wine displaying aromatic complexity and a finely textured palate with a long, clean finish.

Clear and bright gold with the slightest hint of fresh green on the edges.

The nose is already intense and opens with classic varietal notes of ripe citrus, white peaches with grilled pineapple and leave way to a complexity with toasted nuts, wisteria flowers, muscaty whiffs and very savoury undertones. All come to play with the mouth-watering panettone crumb notes of the caramelised oak.

Textural, almost oily from the first sip with aromas of white and yellow peaches, raisins, cantaloupe and candied citrus peels. Fresh but already rich and enveloped with warm charred oak and brioche notes on the finish. This wine will reward patience with developing complexity, expected to reveal itself even further over many years.

ROSÉ 2018

Cape Mentelle Rosé is a fresh, vibrant expression of the typical dry rosé style. Our 2018 vintage Rosé is a combination of direct pressing and saignee methods to deliver a delicate color and fresh aromas. Framed by generous fruit and a refreshing acidity, it makes a perfect summer beverage to be shared with friends.

Bright salmon colour with brilliant hints of watermelon juice.

Full of melon rind, fresh strawberries and watermelon intertwined with white peaches. A pronounced minerality is driven by accents of wet sharpening stone and lifted white blossoms.

The palate is fresh and concentrated with a crisp attack, yet with a complex textural edge that defines the Cape Mentelle style. There is a great depth of flavours, with notes reminiscent of rose petals, lilac, red currants, ripe Meyer lemon, jasmine and cassis tea, finishing with a touch of whipped cream and pink peppercorn.

The Trinders Vineyard was established in 1988 named after a local nearby school, the first in the Margaret River region. Cape Mentelle has developed an international reputation for these varieties that are perfectly suited to the climate and soils of Margaret River.

This blend seeks to capture the depth and structure of Cabernet with the dark fruit and plush flavors of Merlot; small minor amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc complement the blend for a well-rounded, rich style with exquisite balance.

Deep red garnet.

The nose opens with classic varietal aromas of red berry compote, dark plums, and liqueur cherries with hints of herbs and fresh tobacco leaves. Hints of caramelised oak and cedar overlay the rich fruit characters.

The palate is elegant with flavours of sweet cherries and blackberries. Silky but structured; there are hints of cracked peppercorn, licorice, vanilla and light smoke from the oak with a Black Forest cake finish.

Cape Mentelle’s Shiraz takes inspiration from the most traditional techniques in order to highlight our ideal temperate, maritime climate for classic this Australian variety.

The fruit is partially destemmed, berry sorted, cold soaked and traditionally fermented. Maturation in small barriques is aimed at retaining the refined fruit and floral characters of the variety along with the more savoury, spicy elements derived from our vineyards in Margaret River.

Deep, dark purple with youthful garnet edges.

The nose is open and varietal with notes ofwhite and black pepper, spicy cardamom andan elegant whiff of wisteria. Hints of richcandied orange peels, grated coconut, cedar, and cigar box add to the enticing aromas.
