Katherine is the next generation of leaders in Australia’s Wine Industry. From an early age Katherine has had a passion for her family business.
On completing a Business Degree (RMIT, 2004), Katherine then went on to specialise in wine throughcompletingMasters Degree’s in the areas of Wine Business (Adelaide University, 2009), Oenology (winemaking) and Viticulture (Charles Sturt University, 2013).
Katherine joined her family business in time for the 2009 vintage where she gained experience as a cellar hand before travelling to work in Bordeaux and Champagne later in the same year. From this experience Katherine stepped into the positions of Public Relations Manager and Brand Manager, looking after both domestic and export markets.
In 2012, Katherine was accepted as one of 15 candidates into the Australian Wine Industry Future Leaders program, a 12 month course which worked on industry issues and solution processes. The 2015 vintage welcomed Katherine into the Brown Brothers winemaking team, making her mark as the first female winemaker in the four generations of the Brown family. Outside the busy vintage period, Katherine works as the family Brand Ambassador for the business in an export and domestic capacity.
Katherine also plays a role in the greater wine industry, sitting on the Victorian Government Wine Ministerial Advisory Committee.
Recently Katherine was nominated in the Top 50 “young guns” of winemakers in Australia. Katherine works closely with other next generation wine families through ‘Australia’s First Families of Wine’ as the chair-person of the Next Generation Committee, acting with the aim to maintain longevity and success of family owned wine business.
